Frequently Asked Questions
Why should I take stand-up breaks?
Prolonged sitting can lead to back pain, poor circulation, reduced
productivity, and long-term health issues. Regular movement breaks help:
- Improve blood circulation
- Reduce muscle tension and back pain
- Maintain focus and mental clarity
- Boost energy levels
- Support long-term cardiovascular health
What interval should I choose?
-
30 minutes: Ideal for frequent breaks and maximum
health benefits
-
45 minutes: Balanced approach for most workflows
-
60 minutes: For deep work sessions with less
interruption
Health experts recommend standing up at least once every 30-60 minutes.
Choose what works best for your workflow.
What themes are available?
-
Terminal Green: Classic terminal aesthetic (default)
-
Dracula: Popular dark theme for developers
-
Terminal Light: Clean light mode option
What does "I Stood Up" do?
The "I Stood Up" button acknowledges that you've taken your break. It
dismisses the current notification and resets the timer for your next
reminder. We don't track or store this data – it's just a simple
confirmation.
How does Snooze work?
Snooze delays the reminder by 5 or 10 minutes (you choose). Use it when
you're in deep focus and need a bit more time to reach a good stopping
point. The app will remind you again after the snooze period.
What is Developer Mode?
Developer Mode sets reminders to 1-minute intervals for rapid testing.
Perfect for developers who want to test notification behavior and app
functionality. Enable it in Settings → Developer Mode.
Why am I not receiving notifications?
Make sure notifications are enabled:
-
iOS: Settings → Terminal – Stand Up → Notifications →
Allow Notifications
-
Android: Settings → Apps → Terminal – Stand Up →
Notifications → Turn on
Do reminders work when the app is closed?
Yes! Terminal – Stand Up uses background notifications, so you'll receive
reminders even when the app is closed. Just make sure notifications are
enabled and battery optimization isn't killing the app.
Troubleshooting
Reminders stop after a while
This may be due to battery optimization:
-
Android: Settings → Battery → Battery Optimization →
Find Terminal – Stand Up → Don't optimize
-
iOS: iOS generally handles background tasks well. Make
sure Background App Refresh is enabled for the app.
Timer doesn't start
- Make sure you've selected an interval (30/45/60 minutes)
- Check that notifications are enabled
- Try restarting the app
Notifications are too frequent/infrequent
Double-check your interval setting in the app. Make sure you've selected
the interval you want (30, 45, or 60 minutes), not Developer Mode (1
minute).
